This project uses EEG as a contemporary medium for sensing and reactivating Bada Shanren’s bird-and-flower paintings from two distinct moments in his life: his years in a Buddhist monastery and the period following his return to secular life. By translating neural activity into a spatial and visual experience, the work seeks not to reconstruct his inner world exactly, but to reanimate the psychic and spiritual shifts that may have shaped his brushwork. Bringing historical painting into dialogue with biometric technology, the project explores how states of consciousness might be imagined, transmitted, and felt across time.
